All WIC State Agencies

Dear State WIC Director:

On Sept. 30, 2023, President Biden signed into law legislation (Continuing Appropriations Act, PL 118-15) which provides appropriations through Nov. 17, 2023, including for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Under the Continuing Resolution, FNS recently provided WIC state agencies with a pro-rata allocation of funding for the initial weeks of the federal fiscal year. Consistent with past practice, FNS will also provide state agencies with a second allocation, bringing the total first quarter funds provided under the Continuing Resolution to one-third of the anticipated funding need for the year. FNS expects this allocation of funding to fully support WIC state agencies’ operations and ongoing efforts to serve all eligible people seeking WIC benefits through at least December 31st. Additional details and funding amounts will be communicated to WIC state agencies very soon. Once received, if you have any concerns regarding available resources, please contact your regional office for technical assistance. FNS will notify WIC state agencies of any relevant changes from any subsequent legislative actions.

On behalf of the USDA Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), I thank you for your commitment to WIC. Working in partnership, we will ensure continued access to the critical benefits WIC provides.
