USDA Distributes $1.5 Billion to Strengthen School Meal Program
Secretary Tom Vilsack is announcing today that the Biden-Harris Administration is providing up to $1.5 billion to states and school districts to help school meal program operators deal with the challenges of supply chain disruptions brought on by the pandemic.

USDA Funding Enhances Nutrition Assistance Program in CNMI
FNS and the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the CNMI Nutrition Assistance Program. The signing releases a $30 million grant for the Nutrition Assistance Program, with funds authorized by the American Rescue Plan.

USDA Announces Approval of D-SNAP for California Disaster Areas
Low-income California residents in six counties (Lassen, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Tehama and Trinity) recovering from the wildfires that began on July 20 could be eligible for a helping hand from the USDA’s Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP).

USDA Takes Action Against Philadelphia SNAP Retailers for Rules Violations
FNS announced it has taken action against 28 Philadelphia retailers suspected of violating USDA rules for accepting SNAP benefits. Two stores are charged with trafficking based on an undercover investigation, 15 are charged with trafficking based on a data analysis investigation, and 11 are charged with selling ineligible items on an undercover investigation, which could lead to a six-month disqualification if FNS findings are upheld.

FNS Invests Nearly $53 Million in SNAP Administration, Program Integrity
FNS awarded nearly $53 million across eight grant programs to state and local agencies and partners to enhance SNAP. These grants, released throughout August and September 2021, will help ensure program operators and partners have the resources, support and capacity to deliver SNAP benefits efficiently and effectively.

USDA today announced assistance to help schools respond to supply chain disruptions, as part of a comprehensive set of investments to address challenges in American agriculture today. This is the latest example of the ongoing support USDA is providing schools and states as they to adapt to the ever-changing pandemic situation while working to ensure children receive nutritious school meals.
