Modernizing SNAP Transactions with Local Farmers
Thanks to a partnership between USDA and the National Association of Farmers Market Nutrition Programs, direct marketing farmers are now able to accept SNAP payment online. The first direct marketing farmer enabled to accept SNAP online is River Queen Greens, a vegetable farm in New Orleans, Louisiana. SNAP online payments increase accessibility for River Queen Greens customers.

FNS, NIFA Partner to Invest in a Strong and Diverse WIC Workforce
The USDA today announced it has awarded a cooperative agreement to Regents of the University of Minnesota to support the development of the public health workforce in WIC. This cooperative agreement is part of a joint initiative between USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture and FNS intended to improve the health of WIC participants by increasing the diversity and cultural competency of the WIC workforce and promoting culturally responsive care.

Louisiana to Test New Way to Encourage Healthy Eating in SNAP
Today, USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service announced that Louisiana will receive $9.5 million to test out a new model for incentivizing fruit and vegetable purchases among participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.
