USDA Signs Cooperative Agreements with Washington, D.C., to Promote Economic Opportunities for Farmers and Producers, Expand Local Foods in School Meals

USDA is partnering with Washington, D.C., to promote economic opportunities for farmers and producers and to increase access to locally sourced, fresh, healthy and nutritious food in underserved communities and in schools. The Local Food Purchase Cooperative Agreement Program and the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program will improve food and agricultural supply-chain resiliency and increase local food consumption around the country.

USDA Thrifty Food Plan Increase Means More Nutrition Assistance Funding for Puerto Rico

Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) announced a 23% increase, or $463.8 million in annual funding for nutrition assistance in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.  In fiscal year 2022, which starts Oct. 1, 2021, the Commonwealth will receive $2.5 billion grant for the Puerto Rico Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP). In fiscal year 2021, Puerto Rico received $2.038 billion for NAP.

Hoy el Servicio de Alimentos y Nutrición del Departamento de Agricultura de los EE.UU. (USDA, por sus siglas en inglés) anunció un aumento de 23%, o $463.8 millones en fondos anuales para la asistencia nutricional en Puerto Rico. En el año fiscal 2022, que comienza el 1 de octubre de 2021, Puerto Rico recibirá una subvención de $2.5 billones para el Programa de Asistencia Nutricional (PAN). En el año fiscal 2021, Puerto Rico recibió $2.038 billones para el PAN.

Thrifty Food Plan Increase Means More Nutrition Assistance Funding for American Samoa

Today, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service announced a 23% increase, or $1.86 million in annual nutrition assistance for American Samoa. In fiscal year 2022, which starts Oct. 1, 2021, the territory will receive $10.047 million grant for the American Samoa Nutrition Assistance Program (NAP). In fiscal year 2021, American Samoa received $8.185 million for NAP.

USDA Selects Kansas State University to Improve Child Nutrition Safety

FNS has selected Kansas State University to direct the Center for Food Safety in Child Nutrition Programs. The research resulting from this partnership will help improve food safety across all of USDA’s child nutrition programs, which serve billions of meals to children each year.
